Hell-o all,

How do you fund your Kilt purchases? Do you save up for it, or do you just dive right on in.

I have done both.

I started with one kilt and had that one for about 3 years. Now that the bug has bitten me and I'm more comfortable wearing them, I've gone on a rampage to buy more and just buy what I see and what I want. I've yet to spend too terribly much on a single kilt, but I'm sure I will in the near future.

well thats how ive gotten my 1st kilt it`ll be a good while before it`s ready, i bought it from Hector Russells in Buchanan st Glasgow as far as i know the mill is marton mills from which the material comes from ,ive been trying to get as much quality gear for as cheap as possible .

Like my old high school basketball coach always told us, "See the ball, want the ball, be the ball, shoot the ball." In kiltese that would translate into "see the kilt (or other accessory), want the kilt, be the kilt, buy the kilt." The actual literal translation of "shoot the ball" would be "pull the trigger", which in kiltese means the same thing as buy the damn kilt.

I keep a 5000 foot view of my financials on a monthly basis, and as long as the mortgage is paid, cars are paid and gassed, nobody in the house is naked or freezing, cable bill is paid, and there is something resembling food on the table when needed, the rest is all what the economists call " discretionary spending", under which kilts and accessories fall, along with all the other hobbies, travel and recreational activiities, electronics upgrades, etc...., fall. Then it is just a matter of priorities for you personally.

Once in a while I spend and get a kilt that I just want... but most of the time I cruise around the internet for deals. It all depends on how quickly I need/want something.

Being out of work makes the Addiction not possible at the moment. So saving is the only way for me the coins all go into a special place and when the money gets to a certain point.....the trigger gets pulled. Currently waiting on a SWK Black Shadow Tartan, after that it will be a while.

I started off just buying kilts that looked good and spent myself into trouble with the better half. Now I am more discerning and save up to get a nice tank. I've done that for the last two tanks AND may just sell off some of the older SWK kilts to fund a new tank. Now that I know more about the kilt and what I like and want, I am a more frugal buyer.

I always buy quality, and when it is time to replace something, I always recycle it-- sometimes by way of outright gift, and sometime by selling it on. Funding is a matter of prioritizing: Do I add a sword to my collection, or do I order a new kilt? Either purchase is based on COH (cash on hand) or the foreseen sale of some previously acquired item that no longer fascinates in the way it originally did.

What it boils down to is this: If I want something I buy it. First I figure out where the money will come from, but once that hurtle is cleared, the kilt, sgian dubh, or whatever, is mine.

I maintained a liquid savings account to fund the purchase. Liquid = booze Whenever I had a beer or wine, I put a dollar in a jar. For a liquor drink I dropped two. After a couple years, I finally had the cash (and cajones) to buy the outfit

I get a number of cash gifts at Christmas from my customers. I put the money from 2007 aside while I researched kilts and accessories. I finally bought a whole package that I am happy with but now that I've worn it several times, I can see quality and material differences better.
