What loss? They all look pretty happy in those photos, having a gay-old time.

Meanwhile, I hope you'll see a doctor about your tone deafness.

Regards,
Rex, who predicts that posts 16-21 are about to excised.

I read that a school in Scotland had decided to rename the dance the "Happy Gordons" when teaching the children because of the connotations the word now has. It is a shame but you can imagine the sniggering among the schoolchildren.

With the English language being such a fluid and ever-changing thing, I am sure that I am not the only one struggling to keep up.

Quote:
By the end of the 20th century the word gay was recommended by major style guides to describe people attracted to members of the same sex. At about the same time, a new, pejorative use became prevalent in some parts of the world. In the UK, U.S., and Australia, this connotation, among younger generations of speakers, has a derisive meaning equivalent to rubbish or stupid (as in "That's so gay."). In this use the word does not mean "homosexual", so that it can be used, for example, of an inanimate object or abstract concept of which one disapproves, but the extent to which it still retains connotations of homosexuality has been debated.
It reminds me that FAT chance and SLIM chance both mean NO Chance.

Regards

Chas

Exclamation A word from the Forum Moderators

Hi there!

This is Panache, one of your friendly neighborhood Forum Moderators just stepping in to look around and see how things are going.

Hmmm... what started off as a nice thread about an X Marker who got to go see Scottish Country Demonstration team in action seems to have taken a nasty turn.

If I recall correctly xmarksthescot.com is a family friendly and international community whose membership is made of folks of all ages, beliefs (or lack thereof), politics, sexes, and sexualities.

I ask all of you to remember this.

Jock, I would ask you to take a look at your words and put your self in the shoes of one of our gay members. I think you owe them an apology

I am not removing the very questionable posts on this thread because our members have shown a preference for understanding what sort of writings are not acceptable on our forum. However, the Moderators are keeping an eye on this thread and we will remove any further posts that do not comply with the rules and spirit of this great community.

Respectfully

Jamie

Jamie.

Rest assured that if I think I have something to apologise for, I will.

Jock,

It is sad that you have not been able to put yourself in the shoes of those you have insulted.

If you have nothing to add to this thread either on its subject or to good fellowship of XMTS perhaps this is a thread you should refrain from further comment.

Respectfully

Jamie

Let's go back to the SCD Demonstration

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I just removed a post from this thread that continued the off topic debate over the word "gay".

I ask that we show respect for acaig and go back his thread about the Gay Gordon's and the great time acaig had watching an Scottish Country Dance team in action.

Cheers

Jamie

Insulted?

Where?

I think someone is in dire need of some insensitivity training!
Get a life, folks!

The fact is, Jock said something that came across in a completely different way to how he meant it. It sucks but it's what happened.
If someone was offended by it then that doesn't mean they have no life.

Now let's get this thread back on topic.

I like the sound of that medley!
