Arlen,

It certainlycan be part of a dance, but it isn't required at all.

Think for a moment of an all male set for the very boisterous "Reel of the 51st Division". There is going a lot of energy and fun (even raised arms! ) , but there won't be flirting between the dancers.

Do I sometimes flirt with other dancers in a set? Of course! But it depends who I happen to be dancing with. The same goes for humor in a dance (of which there can be a lot ).

It all depends on the set

Dance is so wonderful and joyous, it is a very rich experience and it would be a shame to limit it by always having to put it in a sexual context.

Cheers

Jamie

I do not know from first hand knowledge, but have been told (more than once), that when Scottish Country Dancing, unlike Ballroom Dancing, you can hold a conversation with more than one person at the same time.

Is this true?

Regards

Chas

Hi all you other SCD in XMTS I have only just seen this thread and..... WOW!

I am one of the Gay Gordons in the pics at the Edinburgh Ceilidh ... Yes we had a great time and this was our second demo for the ceilidh in The Assembly Rooms.

Our website which I look after is www.thegaygordons.org and I hope that the link to here will be soon on our links page.

We as a group have been running now for almost 5 years with similar groups following our success opening in Manchester and in Edinburgh. At the last Ceilidh Feb 2010 the Edinburgh boys took over the demo and a great job they did as they were only formed 4 months before.

Feel free to get in touch about SCD and the Gay Gordons. It's great fun and an excellent way to keep fit. Looking forward to you coming to our classes Paul!
