Getting ready for Highland Games Week

Our Highland games is in July and I get to open it with a church service this year- I arrived in December and have never done a kilted service before but am looking forward to it. The brooch for the fly plaid arrived today and I was able to get some pictures of everything I was thinking of wearing. Some neighbours driving past stopped and said it looked very sharp. Since I am knew to the kilt and will be in front of the Highland Society for the service, I'm happy to get feedback on anything that could be improved.

I really don't know if it matters, but I've always seen the fly-plaid attached to the left shoulder. I've never worn one, however. Otherwise, looks nice man.

Thanks. Never even thought about which shoulder.
It should be on the left...Glad to make that gaffe here and not in front of the Highland Society on Sunday morning...

You look really sharp in that Clergy tartan. I've always thought that plaid was really good looking. You're the first that I've seen wear it, and be a member of the church.

Good luck with the Kilted Service, I'm sure it'll be a great hit.

    Roman Collar too... looks sharp

I think the roman collar looks sharp on you in your highland attire. I have often thought it was an odd mix but you have tempered my thoughts. What do you wear in your bonnet? Mistletoe, Olive sprig, Short palms and what badge do you wear on your bonnet?
I am sold on the black hose.

An interesting note, I thought the center of the tartan was the simple cross and not the 5X5 line cross...

You look sharp. Did you wear a stole as well?
Did you preside at a Eucharist?

    peace,

I agree that you are looking very sharp. I assume, from the tone of the tartan, that it is the Frugal Corner version (which I call Clergy Electric ).

Will you be doing a Kirking service or something more liturgical?

Errr... I think you HAVE the fly on your left. There is no gaffe, it's looking good.

I'm really not sure if I need new glasses but I have the impression that you put the pleated side in front.
    I hope I'm wrong.

Like you, I'm not sure if the pleats are the wrong way 'round or if it's just a 'busy' tartan. Hope I'm wrong too!

Other than that, very sharp and fetching!

I hope you enjoyed the games. I seems like the photos are reversed? I see the fringe on the left and your ring on the right. I believe the plaid hangs on the left shoulder, and that the sgian dubh should be in the right sock. I say should, but I suppose none would care since it is supposed to be a utility item. When I wear a watch I wear it on the "wrong" wrist, but that's where I look when I want to know the time
    Regards,
    Guy
