    Going commando without exposing. Impossible?

I have just received today in the mail my first kilt ever.

I could never have imagined how vulnerable of a clothing it is. (Edit*) For example when sitting down only a portion of the pleats at the rear covers you (mid thigh) as well as the aprons at the front, which when sitting down is like having a towel covering you.

So how can one go commando without exposing? It seems impossible!
Okay, I did learn the technique for sitting down, but even then I need more practice.

I put one leg up to tie a shoe...exposure
I kneeled down to pick something up...exposure
I sat down a few times and ooops....exposure

Maybe its a matter of practice, but it seems impossible to avoid exposing oneself when in a kilt, whether it be undies or commando.

Add wind, going up down stairs, etc etc

I guess it is really a good idea to not go commando?

mid thigh? are you sure you got the right size cause all of my kilts and everything i've seen tells me a kilts supposed to be worn just above the knee, in my experience its not that easy to expose yourself, just be careful when sitting and crouch instead of bending over

Sorry I meant to say when sitting down.

Of course when standing up all is fine.

I will edit the original post

Take a look at Xman in this thread here http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...omplete-63164/
You will see he has his leg up on a chair and his kilt is still near the top of his knee. This is what your kilt should look like when sitting or bending down to pick something up. It does sound strange to me that it would be rising all the way to mid thigh. Definitely double check the kilt measurements.

best advice for sitting i can give is keep your legs together or push the front apron down in the middle, or wear dark underwear so no one is certain what they've seen if anything

Apart from the advice you've been given already in this and the other thread, it sounds like you need a good sporran.

I've gone hiking up and down cliff-edge trails by the sea at the Marin Headlands in very strong onshore winds blowing up the cliffs many times, with no problem.

. . .Though I'll confess to being followed for considerable distances by hopeful lasses hiking together, on more than one such occasion.

    Wow, I'm the example now.

re. rear rise while sitting; Yeah, that's what happens. Sweep the pleats when you sit, and bend from the knees like you're supposed to, don't bend over from the waist.

Sorry, hope you don't mind me using those pics as the example. They were just good clear images of how a kilt shouldn't rise all the way to mid thigh even when the leg is brought up on a chair. Off topic, great job on the kilt.
