Going on a date with a younger woman

My girlfriend's daughter surprised me (ambushed, you might say) by asking if I would take her to her Girl Scouts "Date with Daddy" dance. After I said yes (of course!), I asked how formal the event was. When I asked if I should wear my tux or coat & tie, this 11 year old girl told me I HAD to wear a kilt. She said it was really cool, and none of her friends believe her when she tells them I wear a kilt. Sounds like she wants to show me off.

When I asked which kilt, I was told that my Irish National wouldn't go with her dress and I should wear my black kilt. Well, my black kilt is a five year old Utilikilt original that I have lovingly beaten and worn in over the years so it's not exactly formal looking anymore (it is the kilt that I wear most often).

Luckily, my problem was easily solved with a quick check online to Stillwater. I am now the proud owner of a black heavyweight that will suit all my formal needs. I could easily wear this as a tuxedo kilt for Black-tie events. The shadow tartan actually reminds me of the satin stripe down the sides of tux pants.

I'll let you know how it goes, hopefully with pics to follow. (I don't really have many pics of myself, I'm always the one behind the camera).

Now - if only you can get her to insist that you also wear a new pair of gillie brogues with a freelander sporran and Rab Gordon sgian dubh to match!

Congratulations and enjoy the date!

Congratulations. I'm sure this young lady will proudly show you off. You will probably be asked to dance by many of the ladies.

Also, congrats on the Stillwater Black Heavyweight. I have 3 of Jerry's wool heavyweights and they are very nice kilts for the money.

How great to have such an invitation. Doesn't hurt the relationship with the GF a bit, either.

That is awesome. As a Girl Scout leader, I know how much these dances mean to the girls. For a lot of them, it's their first 'date' ever- they get all dressed up in fancy clothes, ask someone to go to a dance, and hopefully you'll get a photo taken at the dance to share! (At a lot of them, they have a photographer.)

Get her a pretty corsage and yourself a matching boutinierre - never can spoil those younger women too much, says I. *wink wink*
