well its official!

I am now a memeber of the honor guard for my dept.

ihave been asked to put together a uniform for the pipers ( there will be more than me soon)

so....what to do

well...I'll need a kilt!

basicly, I get to put together a whole kit!
ant ideas?
I'm thinking black horsehair w/ white tassles
FF memorial tartan kilt/pipers plaid
diced hose (like prince charles wears)
spats
milt. doublet

for some reason, I have always liked the look of the British WWII jacket with the kilt, one xmarker who is also a piper for some department (police or fire, cant remember) has posted photos of his piping kit, and it is more or less a WWII kit, it looks so much better in my opinion, for its purpose, than a scottish regimental piper kit.

thats what I meant ...I saw a thread a few days back that showed the diced to like the PoW wears and I liked the heck outta them!

I would get a doublet that match in color to the rest of the honor guard. Maybe use the same buttons, if they are special FF buttons.

I would go for the ostrich feather bonnet.

I would go with Black and Red hose tops with white spats.

I've seen special FF sporran cantles. L&M might supply those.

And lastly, black pipe bags with the Fire Departments patch sewn on.

Their uniform is a white s/s shirt w/department patch and tartan epaulettes (actual service members wear their badge as well?), red kilt pleated to the stripe (custom tartan??), white horsehair sporran w/ 2 black tassels, black hose tops, red flashes for the pipers - gold for the drummers, & white spats. They top it all off with a red & white diced Glengarry (w/ red toorie & red hackle) for the pipers or a red & white diced Balmoral (w/ red toorie & red hackle) for the drummers.

In colder weather, I've seen them wear long sleeves (still a white shirt) and a military-style black sweater, with the department patches and tartan epaulettes.

I've never seen them wear ties or tunics, or any other kind of jacket.

Their Drum Major (when he's there) wears a pith helmet rather than a feather bonnet.

I don't know if you have to train the other pipers, but if you do, I hope you have patience. I was asked to be in the honor guard of Beloit's FD, and a few of the guys wanted to learn pipes. I tried to teach, but they didn't really try to practice.

Anyway, I played for a few events, here's the uniform they chose for me:

If I could go back and change it, I'd wear spats, but I had limited options. Basically, I wore their Honor Guard hat with a specially made Ike jacket.

The Ike style jacket (we called them "bum-freezers" when I was a lad) always looks sharp. I personally would go Glengarry for the hat rather than the Balmoral, but that is just my taste. OTH I won't wear a Glengarry unless it is part of a uniform.

Another option would be a long sleeved shirt, with epaulets, and the appropriate patches and insignia. I have seen the military type called "blouses" worn by some of the commonwealth soldiers that would really look sharp with a kilt.

I just got done with my first event. the Firefighter combat challenge!

I played with the Tucson Fire P&D. and wore a montrose doubletw/ a tux shirt so only the wingtips showed, Balmoral, white hose, black dress sporran.
they wore longsleve white shirts, ties, horsehair sporran, red/black diced hose, spats, and glenns (I stood out like a sore thumb lol) but we played great, and got good coverage so...win win

thanks for the input(keep it comming!) I'm going to look all this up and give them some options to choose from.
