About 2-3 weeks ago I helped out a couple of graduate students in the building next to mine. They'd had some computer issues with the system that I administer, so I went over and got them all squared away. I wasn't wearing a kilt that day, in fact I was wearing blue jeans and a Hawaiian shirt. We talked about kilts, though. These were the young ladies that were kind enough to act shocked when I told them that I was about to celebrate my 50th birthday.

This past monday at lunch time I went for a walk. I was going to go to the weight room, but I just didn't feel like it, so I changed into my workout shoes and set out. On the way back, I cut through the breezeway and open plaza of the building that these young ladies work in. Mind you, this is the Clark Center at Stanford University, possibly the most high-tech and cutting edge bioinformatics and bioengineering facility in the world. The graduate students and postdocs in this building are VERY smart people.

So I'm bopping across the plaza, about 150 feet wide, and I hear this huge wolf-whistle. I look up, and on the second floor balcony are the two girls I'd helped out, grinning. The strawberry blonde one, whistled again...where'd she learn to pump out that kind of volume? It bloody well *echoed* around the building.

So I went up the stairs and flirted outrageously. In about ten minutes there were 6-7 more people out on the balcony....it WAS lunchtime after all, including the building plant administrator. Turns out that HE is in the Los Gatos, Saratoga Police Pipe Band. So he says he's gonna wear his kilt to work on Friday. Oh, the girls are all OVER that! Turns out that one of the guys,another grauate student owns a utilikilt. Can you guess what the girls had to say about that? Was he encouraged to wear the UK to work in the lab?

Twenty minutes later I'm on my way again, back to my building and the proverbial salt mines, but in a grand mood. Life is good.

Hooray for college!!!

Not only did you get complimented, but you got others to wear their kilts! There's a word for that in Wisconsin "Eh tooferun, hey?"...(yes, in Wisconsin, that is all one word)

Convincing others to wear their kilts is always a good achievement.

Of course you are going to get whistles and cat calls - in your own words "... (they) are VERY smart people" They obviously recognize style and quality when they see it.
