Clan Anderson has granted me permission to wear their tartan.
I got an email last night: Eric:
Please feel free to wear the Anderson tartan as desired. It is one of the unique ones with more colors than any other tartan. We also think it is quite beautiful, and many of us have designated the azure color as “Anderson blue”
Warm regards,
Paula Anderson
Clan Anderson Society
Granted, it is based in the USA, I couldn't find one based in Scotland. But I still asked permission.
Now to find a way to contact clan Ogilvie...

I did not realize you had to do that. I just buy the tartan from my family and wear it. Then, not sure if there is a formal clan group for my family name.

| | | Anderson is not my familly tartan, but I know a lot of people take their tartan seriously, so I simply asked permision from the clan. I will do this with every tartan that I own and that is not related to me. Exept district and universal tartans.

When I finally get my first kilt it is likely it will be in one of the many versions of the Anderson clan tartan. I'm pleased that someone not associated with the name likes it enough to want to wear it.
Enjoy it, my friend!
Regards,
Brian

I love the Anderson tartan too and have a kilt in the Anderson Modern tartan.
No doubt I may be corrected if I am wrong, but Clan Anderson has no recognised Chief so there is no authority needed to grant usage of the tartan.
A Society is not a Clan and whilst no doubt pleased that you asked, would not have any authority to refuse you.
Wear and enjoy it!

That is wonderful, Both that you were courteous enough to ask, and that they were happy to grant permission.

Very polite way to do it even if it's not official. It is something we should all consider. In this day of electronic media and communications we should find ways to use it to be more courteous not just perverted. Thanks for the idea, I intend on using it from time to time...See my post http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/f...on-want-57615/ on the subject.
