Great day kilted

We had a very pleasant Saturday here in Mid-Missouri, a high near 70 and sunny skies. I go to one of the city parks to walk several days a week because I'm on disabled (use a cane), and need to walk in order to retain strength in my legs. Anyhow, I wore my Buzz Kidder Camo. It's a traditional style kilt made out of 10 oz canvas.

Well, they were having an Easter egg hunt in the park about an hour after I arrived. I had not known this before going to the park. Hundreds of parents and children showed up, and I wondered if people would actually recognize my kilt as being a kilt since it was camo, or I would get any negative remarks from parents or children.

All comments were very postive. The adults recognized it as a kilt and thought the camo design was really nice. In the case of most of the children, they looked at the kilt, but said nothing. Two little girls looked at me and smiled, and their mother told them I was wearing a kilt, and it was what Scottish people wear. I even encounted a group of 4 teenage boys on there way to the basketball court, they simply smiled and said hello.

I wanted to post this for the benefit of any new members that may be hesitant about wearing the kilt in public. Wether you have a traditional kilt or a contemporary kilt - just do it. Everyone who has commented on my Amerikilts have referred to them as kilts. It's really not a big deal, and the more you wear them publicly the more confident you will be. And for sure, you will get plenty of smiles from ladies of all ages.

Aye Darrell,

My first kilt was the UK Original in woodland camo. I figured a camo kilt would be the most "macho" and reduce my grief from tough guys.

Of course it never was a problem. I have six camo's now, the AK Tiger Stripe, the PK desert and forest MARPATS, the FK CADPAT and desert, and that first UK

One lady with a Scottish brogue came up to me, looked at the UK camo original and asked with all sincerity, "What tartan is that?"

Darrell,

Well done. Most of our fear of Kilt wearing is brought on by our own anxieties. We fear what others may think and live our lives accordingly. You have just explained very well the freedom and joy of wearing a Kilt can bring-CONFIDENCE in our own abilities.
