Hand tied garters

I got the oportunity yesterday to wear a pair of hand tie garters that I had ordered from Matt and the Tartan Museum. http://giftshop.scottishtartans.org/garters.html Man those things are really comfortable! My wife and I went to Springfield to tour the Abraham Lincoln historic sites. The new garters are extremely comfortable. Unlike the elastic torture devices these did not dig into my legs at all the entire day. If any of you haven't tried hand tied garters you definately need to. I'm not certain of the number of different colours that Matt offers, but it must be at least 15 or so. I purchased the "tartan red" colour which is a deep red, and IMHO very traditional looking. I don't think I'll ever return to the elastic models, and need to order a couple of different pairs as finances allow.

What Standard, Bog Trotter, and Sir William have said. To which I can only add: The comfort level compares favorably with the ride in the back seat of a Rolls-Royce, while from a strictly aestheic point of view they are unsurpassed in elegance.

I started right in with garter ties. I didn't like flashes overly much. I also have BIG calves in relation to leg and ankle size and heard that the elastic can dig in.

So, while I haven't worn flashes with elastic, I CAN endorse garter ties wholeheartedly. They are, as mentioned above, comfy, they stay tied, and look the biz over flashes IMO.

I don't think I'll ever return to the elastic models

Same here. I have a couple of different colors of traditional wool garter ties, and will be ordering more in the future. They're comfortable, easy to tie, and they look great. I won't ever wear flashes again.

I wear nothing but traditional ties now for all the reasons stated above.

The question is: what does one do with a collection of unworn tartan flashes?
