I Follow the Religion...Making and Old Lady Happy

So I'm around the corner today visiting my 85yo mother at the care home wearing my tan Utilikilt Survival II to knock around in today.

There's a new lady resident of the home and she spots me and follows me down the hall to mother's room pushing her walker as fast as she can and just bubbling, "Oh, you're Scotch, my father's family was Scotch too, I'm Scotch!" Didn't see the point in correcting her.

She asked how I liked it in "this country." I politely explained that I was born American of Scot ancestry.

Then she pointed to my kilt and said, "Well, I see you follow the religion."

Out of the mouths of the elderly addled....

Yes, I do follow "the religion."

Great story Ron! We all follow the religion of the kilt. And just like in real religion, some follow it more, some less, some have different about what that religion really is, but we all share some common beliefs.

Ron, first I'd like to say that it is wonderful that you visit your mother in the nursing home. My wife worked as an activity director in a nursing home for 19 years, and it is unfortunate that many of these elderly folks very seldom receive a visit from their family.

I'm sure you really made the new elderly lady's day when she saw you in your kilt. Also, kudo's on how you handled your discussion with her. I'm sure that she had fond dreams that night of her earlier years.

    Great story.
