I just got my new Sport Kilt!

Last week I ordered a Sport Kilt and, bless their hearts, they carry the MacGregor modern pattern. Today I received said kilt and am amazed at how comfortable it is versus a tank. I ordered the sewn-down pleats option because I'm tired of sewing - I've sewn up 9 kilts now and need a break.

Hmm.. was going to do a small review but, nah, you lot know what these kilts are. Suffice it to say I am happy with my purchase and will be buying more in the future.

Actually, I don't know what they're like. I have a couple of SWKs, and a couple of Utilikilts and a couple of wool 5 yard kilts I bought used here on Xmarks.

Glad you like it. I really like the SportKilt that I have, although in all honesty, it's the only kilt I own (thus far). I'll second the call for pics.

I have several Sport Kilts myself. They are my day-in, day-out wear. I rely on them a lot.

You wouldn't attend a Burns dinner in one, but like Dirk said, they're tough to beat for an everyday kilt. Soft, relatively lightweight, machine washable. And some might poopoo the elastic waistband, but when you're doing yardwork and doing a lot of bending and reaching, that waistband is a godsend.

It's made a very light PV [1] with a hem; a modest number of pleats; and a velcro closure. Generally it's the first thing I put on in the morning: just right for fetching the paper, relaxing with the first cup of coffee, and dealing with the daily chores. SK has one of the few washable, knock-around kilts in MacGregor tartan, and pretty nice looking fabric too.

It is built as a cylinder---this one has the optional top-stitched fell---and the pleats are gathered at the waist with elastic.

It's great for yard work; in fact, as the name implies, they were developed for athletes. Mine has no reverse pleat, but the grand-daddy of all deep pleats. Gonzo casual:



[1] The Web site used to say "poly-blend" and we speculated a great deal about the composition. Feels like a nice, soft cotton-polyester. Since last year, it says "poly-viscose." I have a newer one which feels similar to the old (2007 vintage). It feels slightly lighter than the Marton Mills PV, and heavier than some of the inexpensive ones I have seen.

I have one in the Clergy tartan. My one real issue with it is that if there is even the slightest breeze, it blows up to my shoulders. Otherwise I do like it. I'd like to see pics of that MacGregor.
