I was made an Example of...

I was at the grocery store purchasing some vitally needed tonic water and mushrooms* when I noticed two children looking at me in the checkout line next to me. I continued with my purchase and overheard the following from their father.

Father: Do you see that? Do you know what that is?

    Child: mumbles

Father: But have you ever seen one in real life on someone?

    Child: mumbles

Father: This is your lucky day. That is a piece of history.

    Child: mumbles

(Panache takes his purchases and heads out the door, stage right)

Father: One more thing. What do you notice about that man? Do you see he doesn't care what anyone else thinks. He's going to wear that because it's right, and that's what makes it cool.

    Cheers

    * Ok, the Tonic Water was vitally needed, the mushrooms were an afterthought.

Food stores can be an interesting place to wear a kilt. You just never know what you might encounter. The number of people and the narrow aisles ensures the experience is up close and personal... for better or worse.

I personally like the ones that look you up and down, jaw hanging slack or moving up and down slightly with no clue what to say. Their minds have been totally derailed by the kilt! Those are priceless!

What a wonderful dad. It could only have been better if he'd followed up with an inquiry as to where he could come by his own kilt.

I love those encounters when parents point out the kilt to their children and talk to them about it in a positive manner. Thanks for sharing this experience.

That's great the way that father was positive in his attitude towards the wearing of a kilt.
