    Angry I'm NOT GOTH!!!

So far, I have worn my uk out twice, and both times I have told that I look "goth". Even when I walk by the "true goths" here in Seattle I get the "thumbs-up", or "wicked dued" comments from them. So what is it that im doing wrong? Granted, my head IS shaved, and I DO have a few ear rings, and my uk IS black, but goth? The first time I wore it, it was cold out, so I put on my black uk hoodie, Wich I'v worn with jeans and not ben commented on. The second time I was in A black swetter. Do any of you other uk owners have this issue? Any advice on NOT looking goth would be appreciated.

Scotsman: Feel again dearie, it grew some more.

Well if you search google images for "goth" you return pages of pages of people dressed all in black. Many with earrings. Some with their heads shaved. I didn't notice any kilt-wearers but if there were you can bet they'd be wearing black kilts. Probably UKs.

So if you really don't want to look goth you should:

    1) wear colours,
    2) ditch the earrings
    3) grow your hair

    Or....

Wear a look that pleases you. And accept that your look is somewhat akin to goth.

I'm sure there are worse things out there than getting a thumbs up from a group of goths.

Sadly, we live in an age where your look defines you... in other peoples' eyes, anyway. (Come to think of it, I suppose it's not just our present age; it's pretty much always been the case that the 'clothes make the man'). You may not intend to look "goth", but obviously your manner of dress is what people associate with it. Since you apparently aren't presenting a traditional Scottish Highlander type image, "goth" is what people default to in their minds.

Personally, given your description, I'd probably think "punk rocker" before "goth", but that's probably because I don't see any "goths" where I live.

Did you take time to converse with these people and politely correct them?

What's to correct? They said that he "looks goth". He (probably) does.

I suggest wearing something with color as an accent. If you really like wearing black, then maybe try a turtleneck? or something else more conservative. I like the band t-shirt idea... ..unless its a Bauhaus shirt. If it is then, sorry dude, you are a goth.

Why don't you want to look goth? It seems you were just fine with your look until people started applying a label you didn't like.

What sort of look would you rather go for?

I'd say a little color never hurt. Maybe a non-black kilt? How about this one?
