Interesting Kilt Fastening
Just thought I'd draw attention to Matt Newsome's website (sorry if you were going to mention it Matt!).
He's got an article up on an interesting way to fasten a kilt.

I'd love to have something like that!

But cannot that be because one part of our mind, that which we act with, becomes prejudiced through experience and still we keep another part completly open to observe and judge with?[/COLOR][/I]

That looks real sharp. And I thought velcro was great.

That is intriguing. It looks like the system has the potential to greatly enhance the kilt's ability to fit over a larger range of sizes.
It looks like it wouldn't be to hard to retrofit an existing kilt to fasten that way; just remove the buckles and attach one in place of the opposing strap, and then replace the underapron strap with a belt. Hmmm.

Matt wrote in his article:
...someone in the Clan Maxwell Society had asked an old regimental kilt maker to make him a Maxwell kilt.
Where does one find old regimental kiltmakers anymore? That really is an interesting fastening system.

A really interesting way to draw a kilt together. I missed it but was that a custom job?

From the blogged article:
I know for a fact that Larry made his own kilt and sporran -- I suspect he more than likely made everything else he was wearing
Since the man wearing it was the man who made it, I would think you could call it "custom."

That is so cool. That’s actually the way I pictured Kilts fastened before I had seen one up close.

While you're there, check out this blog entry; he gives XMarks a serious plug there. Apparently even the experts can learn a thing or two from our modest little community.

I read this when Matt posted it after the "???" (can't remember which (CRS)) Games. I thought it was a great way to fasten a kilt. Or is that a way to fasten a great kilt??? Oh well, either way, maybe I will have Matt use that fastening idea for my XMarks box pleated kilt. Have to discuss it with him at the Gatlinburg Games tomorrow.
