Interesting Kilt sighting

The wife and myself were sat in a pub having a quick beer after shopping in the city centre yesterday. I had my back to the window when my wife suddenly said there's a chap in a kilt walking up the road. And so it was ... this guy (in his 20's) was with his mate and his girlfriend/wife in his arms. He was wearing a solid black kilt. You could see and tell it was a proper 'tank' .. tee shirt on the top and rolled down socks with walking boots. His lady was wearing the gypsy skirt look. My wife thought it was pretty cool. I thought about popping outside and having a word with him but I decided not to. I did not have my kilt on by the way. If I had I would have certainly gone out to him and asked him in the pub for a beer! Also 'The Welsh Tartan Centre' have just opened another shop in the centre and are opening another one in North Wales. I was in there yesterday and they said they are really really busy. It seems people cannot get enough of the Welsh Cilts. The guy also said that in Swansea it is becoming very popular to wear a Cilt casually. One more thing .. they also said that outside Scotland, Wales is the only country that is still weaving cloth for kilts. I don't know if that is right or not, can't imagine the guy just making it up .. anybody know?

I've worn the kilt often in Wales as I visit when Scotland are playing Wales at rugby.

Think we are coming down this year as well.

I think that there are many countries weaving cloth for the kilts. There are many Asian companies now making cheap kilts to cash in on the revival and I am sure they would not be importing the cloth. Whether it is the same weaving I do not know or indeed the same quality but I stand to be informed and corrected. I like the casual kilt very much although I have yet had the nerve to wear it!!! I really fancy the camouflage one so I might well do it soon!!

Looking forward to Cardiff this year and one or two beers.

Very interesting Derek. Funny, I had this vision as I was reading your post...
Some guys are birdwatchers, they sit watching out for a pale headed brush finch.
Some guys are trainspotters, they stand on bridges waiting for a steam train to arrive.

What do we do? We sit about watching to see if there are any other kilt wearers in town

You make Wales sound like the place to be in a kilt, well done. Swansea is a lovely area, I would imagine it would be the place in Wales for a kilt revival to happen.
(I remember another lovely town, I think it was called Betsy Coed. ??)

There are plenty of countries that are weaving tartans, but I know the Mill that you're most likely referring to.;)

There's a difference of weaving tartan, and WEAVING TARTAN (if you know what I mean). The quality is outstanding, the material is top-notch, and the tartans are "by the book". Some other weavers have the pattern, but not the colors and size. Remember the mantra "you get what you pay for"? Well, that's the same with the Mills. You ought to see their state-of-the-art machinery in action. It's as beautiful as their tartans.

I would LOVE to know if the young guy that you saw was wearing a Twenty-First Century Kilt. Those solids are absolutely WONDERFUL!
