i don't think about wearing a kilt any more. Well, except for "which one?".

If I feel like it, and I know I won't be crawling around other peoples desks at work that day, I just wear it. On weekends, if I feel like it, I strap one on. Going to the bank, walking around town, out to the movies, up to the ballet (We went last weekend; a major favor to my Lady, who said, even though it was "Her" night, that I should wear a kilt if I wanted to) and so on.

No further angst remains.

Well, none on my part, anyway! LOLOL

Think I'm on week 12 without pants now...a good sign for me when I stop counting days.

But, for me, its not only the "which kilt" decision, its the same thing with all the accessories.

A lot of shirts I wore with pants just don't work well with the kilts I have. I've needed to buy a LOT of kilt hose. New shoes seemed necessary...and more wide belts...and a collection of sporrans and sporran straps...and shorter jackets...and kilt pins...and Scottish/Irish/Celtic themed t-shirts for warm weather.

Never thought I'd be pondering which sandals go best with which kilt.

Thank God we have Ham to give us a bit of a clue as to how to put it all together with some sense of style.

Some day, when I'm feeling brave I'm gonna add up the cost of all the accessories I've "needed" for kilting.....scary!

Does jolly old Ham have a book on the subject of stylish kilt wearing? Something comprehensive, including contemporaries AND traditionals, and everything in between etc?

I would buy it if he wrote it. I am fashion impaired. I could probably make a silk tie look wrinkled just by wearing it.

Hamish doesn't have a book, but he has a gallery. In the gallery he runs the gamut from casual to dressy, with a few kilt suits thrown in for good measure.

If anyone is gonna write the next Thompson book, or a similar book to include contemporary kilting, it'd sure be our own Ham

Maybe a "ghostwriter" could cull from his insightful posts to this and other boards...

A fresh book is surely needed.

The 1st Royal Engineers of the Swedish Army has a pipe band:

You are right on! While the individual cost of the accessories is not much compared to the kilt, you need SOOO many of them. And kilt hose is the major one, but I have also found that the shirts I would wear with pants are hard to wear with a kilt and match with the right hose and shoes. Got a deal on shoes this weekend though, 2 pairs of lace up "chunkier" shoes. One pair in black and one in brown, which should work for just about any occasion. For dressy I can go back to the black tasseled dress shoes.

I must say though, it is fun trying to put together an ensemble in the morning!
