Jacobite shirts?

In another thread, bubba complained about somebody wearing "a kilt, but with a Jacobite shirt and running shoes." Okay, I see the problem with the shoes, but what is the problem with a Jacobite shirt?

I'm new to all this.

I would have more of a problem with the running shoes because that would just look odd. Maybe he was running in a marathon?

I hate those shirts. They always make guys look like they're headed to a Ren Faire.

Just my opinion, of course. Lots of guys like them.

I don't mind the shirts, but I do acknowledge that they look out of place in a modern setting. I reserve mine for when I'm trying to look "period".

To wear them with running shoes just isn't right.

I have a few shirts but most people just ask "Where is your buccannears?" to which I reply "under my buck'n Hat.

I'm new to all this.

Normally nothing is wrong with a jocobite shirt, but this was at a major concert at the Performing Arts Center. It was far too casual for such an event.

I just looked at come pictures on eBay, bubba, and fully agree with you. I thought Jacobite shirts were the frilly ones (ducking in case I inadvertantly said something wrong). If I went to the games in a Bear kilt, decent shoes and a Jacobite shirt, I expect I would not be out of place.

So what are the appropriate formal shirts called?

My wife loves them. She'd like me to wear one regularly.

I wore a plain white dress shirt with tie, a Braemar jacket and waistcoat. To me that's appropriate dress for an event of this nature. I swear, to some people jeans formal is as far as they know how to dress up (Jeans formal means a clean shirt, jeans that aren't faded and ripped and shoes). This is how I was dressed.
