    Job Interview Kilted

So amid all the excitement at my agency the local Navajo Nation residential treatment center calls me up and says they want me back, only this time to be director of the place. They implied they're willing to throw money at me to get me.

Obviously, there are many things to consider. One is kilts. From working there before I looked up the dress code in my old employee handbook.

Turns out its a scary one, "Employees should dress appropriately for the work they do." That means to me the supervisor determines what's appropriate. Since I'd be top dog at that agency my supervisor would be the director of the division at the Tribal level.

So, I wore a kilt to the interview....more a pre-interview with the local staff that's been running the place. We talked about how Scottish people and Navajo people had much in common. One of the three people there knew that I wear kilts full time. I explained why I choose to wear the kilt, how its appropriate for me in a seated job. Just wanted to be up front about it.

I've a lot of thinking to do. They're meeting with the Tribal division director tomorrow. We'll go from there. They are recruiting me, they say they want me. I made it clear if we do come to terms and I decide to make a change, I'll be wearing kilts every day.

Not sure where this will wind up...but figure there's no point in it if they would prohibit the kilts. Since I'm not seeking the job, they came to me. Felt okay to let them know what I'll need.

    We shall see.

Good luck Ron, I think you'd do great!

You always show an understanding and respect for all the Native Cultures you mention, so I hope they show the same for you.
.. the kilt had concealed a blaster strapped to one thigh and a knife to the other. He was aware of the present gentle customs against personal weapons, but he felt naked without them. Such customs were nonsense anyhow, foolishment from old women - there was no such thing as "dangerous weapons," only dangerous people.

Good luck with this opportunity! I think it was a great idea to be up front with how you feel about the kilt, and why you wear them. You're right, they came to you, so you can expect them to be open to your wants/needs in order to get you. Keep us posted on what happens.

Best of luck to you leave a nip for for the trickster and his wee folk freinds to keep them quiet and you will do fine I am sure.

good luck Ron , i hope they are willing to woke with you. but it almost sounds like some where in there that you really dont want the job. i know they came to you so its worth considering but is it something that you really want , will you be happy with the job even if they do let you wear your kilt ?

i suppose it would all depend on if you really liked what it is that you do? but if they don't mind the kilts, sounds great. watch out for tribal politics, as i'm sure that you already know.
