Just ordered kilt #2! And a jacket hire question.

Yesterday I visited my kiltmaker here in Edinburgh and ordered my second tank. It's a 9-yarder in MacTavish (228) modern Lochcarron strome for my wedding in July.

I'm also looking to hire a Prince Charlie for my wedding as well (can't afford a kilt and jacket!). Do any of the xmarkers from the Chicagoland area know of a good hire company? I've seen mail order hire companies - anyone with any experience of them? Are the jackets good quality and authentic?

Thanks for your time and any advice would be appreciated!

Kilt hire companies replace their stock about every 6-12 months. Call your local rental company and see if you can do a rent-to-apply-to-purchase deal.

Thanks for the tips and congrats.

My main problem is that I live in Scotland and the wedding is in the Chicago area - where I have visited once - so hiring a kilt here would involve a three/four week rental (I don't even know how much that would cost). I was just hoping once of the guys from Illinois might have come across a hire shop as the only way I'd find one would be over the net and who knows what you might get then. Also add in that I need a pretty large size it all seems very complicated.

First of all; Congrats on the Big Day!

I'm also planning a wedding this summer and will be using Scotland Yard which operates out of Shellbyville, Kentucky. They do a lot of mailorder business and are great to work with. I'm fairly positive they rent Lochcarron jackets and know from experience they have the sizes for us big guys. The website is www.scotyard.com .

Thanks Rotunda!!! Congrats and best wished to you too. Scotland Yard was one of the places I came across. Looks like I found my rental place - which is a relief. They do indeed seem to keep a large amount of bigger sizes!!!

Another renter that does mailorder is Atlanta Kilts
Convener, Georgia Chapter, House of Gordon (Boss H.O.G.)

Where 4 Scotsmen gather there'll usually be a fifth.

They are in Nashville Indiana and may be able to help.

Don't forget that Matt Newsome rents out of the The Scottish Tartans Museum. Matt always seem to be ready to help.
