Kilt hangers at Wal-mart

Hey, thought I'd let folks know they have wooden skirt hangers at Wal-mart that are identical to kilt hangers. They are $3.46 for two. Picked up a couple this weekend and the work great. Bargain hunters away!

Another option for the price concious consumer is to have a quick look as you go through the tills, or ask the cashier, for the hangers that they take off of pants and skirts and just toss out. I'm talking about the one that are usually black, have a clip on each end, an often a size indicator. The stores often toss them into the trash so don't mind letting you have them. I have all my kilts hung with these; 2 hangers per and in a method described somewhere here in the forum. It's effective, environmentally friendly, and at the very least gets you into a conversation with the cashier about kilts!

Good point. I didn't know stores would just let you have them. My wife works retail and said she could have gotten those for me but I had already bought these. Thought I had the hookup! heh heh.

The down side of that is your kilt is supported by individual clips, creating stress points which will deform over time, especially with the weight of an 8-yard wool kilt hanging from them.

I have several of the wood hangers from Walmart, and they are one continuous support rail all the way across. Basically, it's two wood bars (with metal wire for strength) that clamp across the front and back of the kilt, and the top hook of the hanger sort of clamps them together. It provides even weight distribution.

These hangers are well worth the money IMHO.

In the same area at My local Wally World, they have mens p@nts hangers for sale in packs of three. A PV kilt will hang on one nicely but the woolen kilt requires two. Unfortunately, I do not remember the pricing for comparison.

Typically, the stores don't toss those out. They toss them into a bin and then cart the bins to the back, where they hang NEW product being received in boxes. As a former retail employee, I used to HATE getting large boxes of product. It meant I was going to have to spend an hour or two hanging shirts, jackets and pants. I don't like hanging my OWN laundry, much less things that aren't mine.

Wal-Mart does throw the plastic ones out. Actually they recycle them. When I worked there one of my jobs was to put the hangers in the bailer, and then put the bails on the truck. They usually let you keep them if you as for them.
