    Kilt on Ice!

In college, I was a very good ice skater (figure skating). A week ago, my daughter announced she wanted her birthday party at the local ice rink. Haven't been on ice skates for many years. However, always wanted to test the boundaries, decided to try a kilt on ice.

I wore my US Navy tartan Sportkilt, thin black knee socks (thin so they would fit into the skates) and topped it off with a woolly white sweater.

I was pretty wobbly at first, but once I found my balance, my speed and dexterity came back. Was worried about upending myself if you know what I mean.

There were a lot of little kids there and I could see many asking their mommies about the guy in the "skirt".

A nice English lady came up along side and asked me if I was Scottish. We chatted for a bit, found out she was from Stratford-upon-Avon, Shakespeare's birthplace.

Overall, I was comfortable, the kilt actually works quite well on ice. No movement constraints at all due to the kilt. I recommend it for those interested in trying something a little different.

Years ago, the Scottish skater John Currie toured the country with a kilted show on ice. I think they did "Sleeping Beauty" or some such story.

I agree with Peacekeeper83 - you wouldn't want to frighten the children during a spin!

Well, kilted ice skating, that's another activity to add to the range of kilted activities which members of this forum have undertaken.

That fits right in with Ozone and his kilted downhill skiing.

A few years ago, I ended up at a roller skating rink in full kilt and decided "why not...."

I had on one of my lightest weight wool kilts, which took the one spill that I had rather well and the boxers kept the important modesty.

One of the tweens there thought it was terribly cool that this "old guy" (then 35) in kilt.

Yea, I'd wear kilt again there.....

I saw a kilt when we went to Disney on Ice a few months back, It was a blue and white one, was impressive, looked really well built, was glad the guy was wearing shorts under it, there was a lot of jumps and spins.
