    Kilt no. 5 is in...

Alright, so I saw all the postings about SWK's sale. Well, I didn't really want one of the solid kilts. What I needed was a red tartan to expand from my growing collection of green/blue/black. So, I reckoned I'd order one of their Wallace Economy kilts. I have several items from SWK including one of their standard kilts (Nightstalker.) I have to say, that I'm actually more impressed with this one than the NS for two reasons.

    1. The Nightstalker tartan has a soft "blankety" feel, where as the Wallace tartan has a more coarse "worsted" feel to it. I likey a LOT.

    2. The Standard kilt (like the Econo) is made from acrylic. BUT, I feel that acrylic is too thick (or something) to be kilted at the much yardage (SWK standards use 7-8 yds, where the econo uses 4 yds.) Yes, the pleats aren't as deep, but I feel the trade off is WELL worth it. The fell on a standard is like wearing several pair of undies. Way too thick.

The one disadvantage of the econo, is that the pleats aren't sewn down. This is a first for me. But, I actually don't see it being much of a problem. I shall soon find out....

Your fast gaining on me and my 8 but I've been getting hand sewn traditionals in my family tartans as my kilt priorities, only two more to go and then I can focus on other kilts

Well, I only have one hand sewn traditional in my family tartan. But, there are several others on the list. I've just been trying to get enough kilts to wear on a daily basis is all. I know I definately wouldn't use a closet full of hand sewns as daily wear.

    Bradley,
I'm sure you will like your SWK Wallace Economy. I love mine, wear it several times a week!

Well, I'm wearing it as I type. I wore it to the grocery store a bit ago. I love this thing. Very comfy. I really like the shoter yardage. I think someone had mentioned the SWK standards having the excess fabric in the fell. I do enjoy the NS as well and will continue to wear it as well. This was my first red tartan. Everything else has been "subdued" in comparison. I felt like I stuck out a bit more. Though I do realize that I stick out, no matter WHAT I wear.

Working as a cook means I wear a solid black Pittsburgh kilt or one of the no longer available USA Victory kilts. The hand sewn traditionals are for everything else though I do have a Pittsburgh kilt that is the same weight and feel of dress slacks, they look great when you want a smart modern look withoot the tartan.

I was taking a short online surf tour back on 8-1-06 when I fell upon the "sale." It didn't look as much like a sale as it did a terrific bargain. In fact, I didn't know it was a sale at all. I thought it was the bargain rack! I bought one. The Black Watch Standard. A couple days later, as I perused our postings here, I discovered to my delight that that day I had stumbled into a fortuitous purchase. I immediately clicked into SWK and bought two more. The Solid Black econ & the Wallace Tartan econ. I'm not attempting to attain a collection of kilts. I am, however, fully intent on filling my wardrobe with premium clothing in a variety of qualities and functionality from casual to formal. My goal is to own only three type of pants, job required uniform, shorts for specific public events and I forgot the third type, so, I'll wear warm leggings with my kilt. haha
