Kilt No.80 in The Kilt Kollection

Yes, folks, I am now in possession of No.80 in the Kilt Kollection.

No.80 comes from our friends at Union Kilts in North Wales, and is in their own house tartan - just launched. Whilst it resembles a 'dress' tartan, the Union tartan is very much easier to colour co-ordinate since what appears to be white is actually cream. The other colours are black and green.

The 16oz fabric is an unusual (to me) blend of wool (80%) and acryllic (20%) which is woven in Eastern Europe. It is surprisingly soft considering the presence of acryllic and holds the 28 sharp knife-pleats very well - I was also pleased to see the reverse pleat as standard. The three buckles and straps are of good quality, the kilt is lined where kilts should be lined and there is a neat double fringe to the wide apron.

As one who is used to pure 100% woollen kilts, I was expecting perhaps a little roughness in this blend, but the high percentage of wool disguises that - if, indeed, it is there at all!

It is a very comfortable kilt to wear - in fact I have had it on almost all of today - but I doubt it will become a 'best' kilt for me. On the other hand, it is one I will be pleased to wear casually and frequently.

Union Kilts surpassed themselves with the delivery. I placed my order at around 2.00am (yes, AM!) on Thursday morning and it was delivered at 11.30am next day. Well done, Richard.

At just under £130.00, I think this kilt represents excellent value for money, and I wish Richard and Oliver good luck with this, their first own tartan.

80 is such a nice round number - great job showing this kilt in its very best light. I love how the green flashes and tie work with the green stripe in the kilt!
