kilt order!
just orderd a Stewart Black from Stillwater but it was for my son who turns six in a few weeks...... oh well, he'll love it!!! .
Now i just have to find a sporran for him, he is a little guy and small for his age, and all kid sporrans i have seen look like thay would be way to big on him, and the infant/toddler ones look way to small.
so here is the question, does a small boy need a sporran, or just a belt and buckle.
if it helps he is 3'5" tall and kilt mesurments are waist at navel 20" and length is only 13.5" to mid knee.
so yes to a sporran or just belt and buckle?
(yes the wife is going to hem up the kilt when it gets here. that size of waist in the SWKY is a 16" length)
and yes i'll put up picks, but he's birthday is not till the 22 of July so it will be a bit

Does he normally carry anything in his pockets?

no he never does, the sporran would just be for the looks of it.

Get a kid-sized one even if it is a little too big. He'll grow into it.

probably put plastic army men and dirt in it, well that's probably what i would've done at that age, if it were me id forgo the sporran for now, and wait a bit longer, just to make sure that he will be into kilting as much as you may want him to be.

i guess the question should have been, whats the greneral opinion if a kid needed a sporran or if no sporran was acceptable...
its sort of a mute point now as i just ordered one from midwest kilts.
But i still would like to hear opinions on the subject though

Having just placed an order with Stillwater myself, I thought I'd give my two bits.
On a wee lad, such as yours, I think a sporran would look adorable. You can probably get away with just a belt, but why skimp on the cute factor? Especially when one of your kids is involved!

Why not a sporran when he/ you want to dress it up, but don't require it. Flopping around might turn him off.

My son probably wouldn't wear his kilt without a sporran. Where else would he stow his dinosaurs and his garter ties? (he eventually gives up on having his hose up over the course of a day).

My son is 6. He has a little sporran, but only wears it less than half the time...
