I made my first one about 6 years ago from Merino Wool. Got married in it!
A mixture of hand and machine stitching, I have been playing with sewing machines since I was a teenager, my mother used to do alterations. I sure wish I had Barb's book then, there are a lot of things I wish I had done differently. I have been tempted to throw it out (I never wear it anymore), but I just can't bring myself to. I also realized it would have been more cost-effective to just have one made by a pro, and put in some overtime at work to pay for it.
The straps are dog collars, all I could find on short notice. They work great! Yes, it's a bit too long (I hemmed it up later). I have no idea why the kilt pin is so high in the photo. You can also see the lining is pulling on the front apron, I fixed that later.
Does nobody else see the picture in my post? I clicked on Bubba's link and got the picture, and linked it into my post.
I saw it both from the original link and from your post. Here it is again posted (for a while) from my Photobucket album.
I realize this is a post from a year ago, but I must give props to Bubba for applying his hand to a self-made kilt. GOOD WORK! The kilt looks great, and I'll bet you still feel great wearing it.
After a few cotton kilts... then the tartan one!

Oh, I've done alot better since then. I've made several tartans and one plain dark blue since that one. The one it the pic I wear for cleaning and painting apartments now.
Everything in excess! To enjoy the flavor of life take big bites. Moderation is for monks.
