    Kilt vs. Tartan?

Photopguy67’s topic on “Acceptance” made me wonder…

Is it more important/interesting to wear a kilt?

    Or to wear a Tartan?

I'm not sure that most of us make the distinction between the two. I have a couple of solid color kilts, but they rarely get worn. I don't have any tartan trews, but if I did, I imagine they'd rarely get worn.

On the other hand, I could see myself wearing a tartan waistcoat with dress slacks, for instance.

But for the most part, tartan and kilt go together in my mind.

It's all about the kilt for me, tartan is just a colored design. Granted, I like the designs and colors out there but, like Mr. MacDougall, if I had tartan trews they would not get worn simply because they are not as comfortable as a kilt.

I like tartan kilts better than plain colored ones. I have both, but I love the tartans. Id wear tartan trews or trousers too if I had them, and may get a pair made someday. Id also like to get a denim kilt as well, but I havent gotten one yet. I have a brown Amerikilt I really like it, but the thing wrinkles so bad so fast I never wear it. Id wear it a lot if it didnt wrinkle though.

How do you know that? Do you own a pair of trews?

One of my best friends wears trews on a regular basis to Scottish functions, and loves them.

To me, tartan is more important. The kilt is just the best way to wear it!!! But I have tartan shirts, plaids, trousers, and socks.

Well, I own 6 solid or camo kilts, and 2 tartans, so you can guess which way I feel about it.

    Best regards,

I prefer tartan kilts simply because I like the look of tartan, but I like solid colour kilts, too.

Living in the middle of America and with no Scottish ancestry that I can find I have no ties to the tartan to find it important to wear. I love the tartan kilts I have and wear them with pride and respect but no connection. I like kilts, I have solid kilts, and tartan kilts. If it looked right to me I would wear polka dot kilts. I have always loved to wear colors and kilts are a way I can do that without looking like a clown.

The kilt is a great instrument for blowing up social norms and letting people know that you are your own man.

    No pants can do that.
