The kilt at work, finally

Well, I went and did it. After finally recieving authorization from the BDE CDR, I wore my kilt to work today. Lot's of varying reactions. Everything from the sideways glances and whispers to the loud laughter and inuendos.
The most disturbing reaction came from a woman I work with almost daily who commented that she felt I was a disgrace to the Army and a disgrace to the uniform. But for the most part, reactions were positive. I got a lot of "What's the special occasion" to which I replied that it's casual Friday, so I'm not wearing my uniform. When I did say Proscription Day, I ended up having to give a complete historical background which usually took way too long and got nowhere based on the deer in the headlight looks I was getting. I also got more "we can wear our kilts?" statements than I expected, and gave out this website as well as a few others more than a couple of times. Hopefully we'll have some new members soon.
Another exciting development was the Reserve soldier who told me that his Great Great Grandfather was a Pipe Major for the 42nd. (I wore my Black Watch kilt today). We had a very long conversation.
The following picture was taken before I went to work today. Hopefully, I didn't make any fashion mistakes. I don't have a jacket yet, so I had to go without. I wanted to present a professional appearance for this first time. I think there will be more of us next time.

You look great! Congrats on the positive comments and ignore the rest. Shock and awe will do that to some people, and what is more awe inspiring than a confident man in a kilt?

Your outfit looks fantastic! Very sharp. You'll probably only have to wear it to work a couple more times for the "weird" comments to stop. If people persist to make adverse mention it says a lot more about their inadequacies than yours.

Don't go to the grave wishing you'd worn it more just because a few people, who bear no import to you, thought it odd. A sad life t'would be to live in the shadow of others' ignorance.

Hey Drillagent, what is your capacity with the Reserves? ART, AGR? You presented a very respectable and clean cut look. Whoever that woman was, she doesn't seem to know the military heritage, dress and appearance standards, or the history of the Celtic legacy within our military. Take the good for what it was, and ignore any negative; they aren't worth your time if they don't care to educate themselves.
