Kilted backpacking trip
Last Monday through Friday, I took a backpacking trip in the Myakka River State Forest in southwestern Florida.

And thanks to the generosity of tundramanq, I did it in a Mountain Hardwear Elkommando kilt.
The kilt was cool enough during the days (highs in the 80s) and warm enough in the evenings (lows in the high 50s). But the most amazing thing to me was that the kilt looked as good on day 5 as it did on day 1. I probably should add that it looked good enough to wear around town on day 1.
Here's what at least part of the trail looked like:

That is great. Nothing like hiking in the kilt.

Awesome. I agree, hiking kilted is the way to go! Congrats, and here's to many more successful adventures without trousers.

What a beautiful Picture!
Florida is too hot for me but it can be really gorgeous!

Looking great Iain!
That's one of the things I like about them. Sewn pleats and un wrinkleable.
Feels great until the skin oil builds up, then wash, rinse and put it back on (in the heat - LOL) and keep on hiking. Dry in a half hour here. I did keep one for fishing - who has time for waders when reeling in a rainbow trout, grinnin ear to ear?

Good time of the year to be hiking kilted in Florida----skeeters are pretty much chilled out. Looks like you had fun.

I've not found those kilts available online lately. Where did you come by it?

Re: Kilted backpacking trip
kilted joss - I snapped up a bunch if them 2 years ago when I heard they were dicontinued and being sold out and I wore them a lot at the time. I gave them all away here this last month for cost of shipping because I only needed one for camping and, as I found out, they wear like iron.

Re: Kilted backpacking trip
That looks like a fun hike!
Last I heard Mountain Hardwear was going to bring them back again this spring. sounds like they are likely a seasonal item.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

Very very different from the area where I backpack, but lovely nonetheless. Glad you had a good time, and kilted, too!
