To the Kilted Clergy of the group

    Hey guys,

I have some questions for the clergy among us in here. I have a couple marriages to perform in the next year or so, and I plan do do so kilted. I was just wondering how many of you preform your duties kilted, and if so do you do so in the Clergy tartan, or do you wear your clan or other tartans? I am planning on getting a clergy tartan tank made sooner or later, but right now all I have is a Clark from frugal corner, Its an "okay" kilt, but its not a nice kilt, I was thinking about wearing my clan tartan tank, and getting a red tabbed shirt to match, and wearing that. Or should I start saving pennies now and pony up for a new tank in the clergy tartan? What do you all think?

    thanks guys

I am not of the cloth, nor do I harbour any desire for that hard life, but it is my understanding that the Clergy Tartan was designed for members of the clergy who had no tartan of their own.

Our own Matt wrote a piece here that may shed some light for you.

Personally, I have performed one wedding wearing my Nightstalker from SWK. It's a great looking kilt that fits every color scheme. It also looks great with a Prince Charlie. I only do Celtic/Scottish weddings, though, so I do all of my services kilted.

Have done Scottish descent kilted funerals in Clergy Tartan, but only if Kilts are being worn by family members (with or without a Piper).
Also for weddings of the same type. Otherwise I wear my usual Vestments for such occasions.
I think Clergy Tartan would be the most appropriate Tartan for Ordained Clergy, but of course most folk wouldn't have a clue, nor be related to the "Kilt Police", so one can wear whatever one prefers, I guess.
But I confess to feeling a bit 'put out' when I see the unordained laity (licensed by the state) doing weddings in Clerical Garb or Clergy Tartan-when they are not Clergy. But that's just me. I know when to keep quiet.

Not of the cloth either. (Though it may surprise some to know that I was at one point in studies to be a Baptist preacher. Another tale for another time and place.) Anyway, first thing that jumps at me is whether the intended weddings are Scottish or not? I believe that would be the only appropriate time to officiate a service kilted.

Sorry, I have no advice. In my tradition, Tibetan Buddhist, weddings are secular, not religious. In fact, the ordained traditionally don't even attend the actual ceremony.

    Definitely the clergy tartan.
    Always vote for more kilts.

A dress code along doctrinal lines? Hmmmm? Wear your best Kilt. If you want to wear a better kilt, get a better kilt. It's the Bride's wedding and her day- it's the groom's wedding and his day. There is a ordained uniting of souls in the Spirit and Law that day. DRESS for the DAY.

ones my sisters wedding the other is my cousins, so both have Scottish ancestry. Thank for the advise guys. I may order a red tab collar shirt and see how it looks with my clan tank. Before I max out my credit card on a new kilt. I also have 3 kilts to get made by my dads bday in july. Another kilt may not be in my budget. Unless the family pulls together and sees fit to pitch in and get me that for my bday lol

Isn't the Father of the bride supposed to spring for all the wedding expenses? If that could work, have him buy you a new kilt..
