Kilted at Cub Scout Christmas Celebration

My 8-year old son and I wore our Stillwater MacLaren kilts to our pack Christmas celebration last Thursday. I wear kilts everyday as well as to scout functions, but it was sons first time kilted at scouts. The best part was when two other scouts told their parents that they wanted kilts.

My son wants to wear one of his kilts to school, which I am totally supportive of, but I am going to make sure it is OK with the principal as I don't want to get a call telling me to come and get him.

Good idea. One word you might want to use with the principal.."diversity".

My congratulations, I always like to see a father/son in their kilts together.
One question if I may. Whenever I see American scouts in their MacLaren kilts, they are always in the modern colours. It this the regulation or can they also wear ancient/weathered colours?

Always good to hear of kilt wearing becoming a family activity, rather than just "something Dad does". I am sure you two will go from strength to strength.

Contentious question Downunder. We have had heated threads on this before. The quick answer is that according to US Scout Regulations the kilt is not part of uniform. There are exceptions, but of course that only emphasises the rule.

I for one would like to see the regulations changed officially, but the BSA does seem to have it's head stuck in the sand on this one.

    Regards

    Chas

I have two daughters (slightly younger than your son), and I plan to wear my kilt to the next Father/Daughter dance at their school. I'm sure there will be mixed reactions, but that's OK.

Good luck with the request to the school principal. I'm not sure which school your son is enrolled in, but if you wanted to have a few of us local kilties stop by to lend support, just say the word. Regardless, let us know how it works out.

I know the principal very well and I will be surprised
    If it is an issue.
