    kilted emergency!

I'm advisor for a colony of my fraternity. Next weekend, the colony will be formally accepted into the fraternity, and a vast majority of the weekend is either suit or tux attire. Most of the members of the colony have never seen me in anything but a kilt.

does anyone have any ideas how I can aquire/borrow a PC (jacket/waistcoat/blackwatch or black flashes) by next weekend?

If borrowed, I would be more than happy to pay shipping both ways.

    Tailor Shop!

I went down to the mall and got a fairly nice black jacket one size too large, I then had it tailored to me and converted to a kilt jacket by a local tailor. It cost me $60 for the jacket and $60 for tailoring. dude it looks good on me! do an internet serch for kilt jacket, take notes to show the tailor.

Tell us the size needed. Someone might have such an item lying around that needs a new home. O'Neille

    . . .
    Ideas:

Stillwater has multiple colors of flashes available, including black, for $5.00 per pair (good price!). You may want to choose a color that matches one of the thin stripes in your tartan to highlight / accent it.

Jacket -- if the weekend events range from semi-formal (suit) to formal (tux), an Argyle can go both ways, depending on whether you use a long tie or bow tie.

If you want to buy, you can probably find someone who has your size in stock. (As a note of caution, ask them how the jackets run -- I normally wear a 40R jacket, but ended up having to exchange both my Argyle and PC for a 42R). J. Higgins might be a possibility several XMarkers have been pleased with them. The Kilt Store (XMarks sponsor) might also be able to get it to you in time. Matt Newsome is definitely another choice -- both purchase and rental.

Search on "kilt rental" turns up lots of options. Doing a quick scan of some, The Scotland Yard, Shelbyville, KY, even mentions that they can do overnight FedEx. (I don't know anything about their service.). Scottish Lion happens to have some ex-rental Argyle jackets on sale in selected sizes. They've been mentioned in some posts over time, but I don't remember anything recent.

Plenty of options . . . hope this helps!

This obviously a time sensitive issue. The first place I would be inclined to check is a tux rental place... they will either be able to supply what you need or refer you to a source. Time is the enemy. You might need to do some driving to beat the clock.

The alternative of course is to get a tux and blend in with the group.

I'll have to go to one of the local stores to get my jacket size. My suit jacket ( as expected ) doesn't have a size in it.

oh, and as for driving, I'll have to see if there is a kilt store in Dallas. There isn't one anywhere in OK until the end of the month.

I'll have the size posted tomorrow night...thanks everyone.

oh, a few people have asked, the fraternity is Pi Kappa Alpha.

Speaking of Dallas -- I'd forgotten -- there's Scotland Forever -- I think PlanoPiper's wife is associated with the store (owns it??). They do rentals. Don't know how much stock they carry if you decide to buy.

Probably your best bet is to get on the phone tomorrow during business hours.

Definitely call first . . . Scotland Forever is the only Scottish-related store that I'm currently aware of in the DFW area, and I don't think they have a store front . . . operate out of the owner's home. You can find out what they've got before you drive down. (Might save you a long trip.)

However, if you decide to drive down, let me know if you want to have coffee (etc.) before driving back . . . I might be able to meet you some place.
