| |  Kilted at the Hospital
My youngest, Nathaniel, has been in the hospital for the past two nights with a respiratory infection (we hope to have him home some time in the next 24-48 hours), and I've been amusing and making curious the staff at two hospitals in and around Washington, DC over the past 48+ hours.
Today, one of the volunteer clowns at Children's Hospital passed me near the atrium as I tried to pick up a cell signal in an "okay" location (no place is really good with all the wireless networks the signs say cell phones interfere with) gave me a "I like your kilt!" as she passed.
Also, one of the nurses (let's call him Carl) attending to Nate's care has been having fun with one of his shift-mates. Apparently at a staff meeting last night, after seeing me bekilted (UK original) with my son and in the hallway, another nurse asked Carl if he knew what religion I was. Carl, while making conversation with me and my wife this morning, said he needed to come up with a religion to tell her to really get her going. I immediately popped out with "Kiltarian." My wife added that wives in kiltarian marriages are forbidden from wearing skirts (which, in our case is the observable truth).
Carl later came back into our room and offered a hand for a low high-five: his shift-mate was looking it up on Google when he left to come in to see us. 
Now for tomorrow: I'm optimistically hoping that we'll finish our stay, and on a high note--it's Robert Burns's birthday, so I'll put on my SK Hunting, sporran, FK heritage hose and SK flashes, along with my grandfather's Clan Cumming kilt pin, and relieve sorely sleep-deprived wife (I think I'll take off the sporran and kilt belt for holding the baby; fewer things to catch on the tubes and probe leads, you know)! Best wishes for the little one. I think "Kiltarian" sounds like a great religion. My wife and I would be "reformed Kiltarians" though, because she likes to wear skirts...

Never fun when a little one has to spend time in a hospital but it sounds like this is not too serious of a situation. Good to hear that you and your wife are able to have some fun with the staff while there.

I hope your young 'un get's better soon. 
I had the hospital in a bit of a stir this past fall when I showed up in a kilt three nights in a row to see my nieces. They just didn't "get it." ha!

Wish your youngster a speedy recovery. Curiously enough I've quite often seen kilt wearers around the cafe and in the grounds when I've visited at Borders General Hospital. I've just assumed they were patients who normally only wore their kilt for a special occasion but were wearing it temporarily while staying in the hospital, due to restricted mobility preventing them getting into their more usual trousers.

When my mother was dying I was practically living at the hospital with her for the last week. Was kilted the entire time...in fact wore the same kilt, UK Chocolate Workman's, the entire time.
Don't recall any comments from staff, but then I was on the hospital board for years and they see me come in regular to donate blood kilted. And, don't think there's a more tolerant group of folks while on the job than medical types.
Glad things are improving for your young one.

I hope by now that you're on your way out of the hospital. Great invention with the "Kiltarian" idea. Not a bad concept in my opinion. Can we do a Conclave or something and elect you a High Priest?

I hope Nathaniel is OK, its good you can have some fun with the staff. How do I join the Kiltarians, is that some kind of cult?
