    Kilted In Japan

After 3 days of training with buyu (martial friends) from all over the world at the Tokyo Budokan, last night was our head master's 80th-birthday party in Noda. A few pics:

    Thumbs up

It looked like a very "international" event....and you were very well turned out! Nice job!

Great pics Dale, looks to be an interesting mix and a fun evening.

In the second pic, what is the tall fellow next to you wearing? I really like the look of it.

Nice. Thanks for sharing. Tokyo is a great place -- I'm so lucky to live within driving distance. Had I known a fellow XMTS member was in town, I may have been able to arrange a meet-up. ;-)

Glad you had a good time, though. Thanks for the pics.

He's an instructor from Australia. I can't really describe what he's wearing except to say that I found it very "Edwardian" looking.

One of the best moments last night was when I came into the room and a lovely blonde Aussie lass quietly murmured "Awesome kilt!" as I walked by her.

The Bujinkan's annual Daikomyosai "training festival" is indeed a very "international" event. There were nearly 450 of us there this time. Countries represented that occur to me right off the top of my head included the US, Germany, Netherlands, UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Russia, Spain, France, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, India, Australia, Brazil, Argentina. . .I know I'm forgetting some, but those come immediately to mind.

After 3 days of kicking each other's arses, we get down and party and celebrate Hatsumi sensei's birthday. :-)

Oh, and while I'm thinking about it: the Harris tweed jacket & waistcoat are from the Scottish Tartan Museum gift shop; the sporran is a Ferguson Britt Glengyle with beaver fur; and the kilt is. . .

. . .a Stillwater "standard kilt" in their proprietary "Nightstalker" sett, which I felt was just the thing for a group of folks training in historic ninja combat skills. :-)

Oh, right: Greece, Italy, Czech Republic, Canada, Japan of course, and I think a few more.

    Bujinkan

The fun thing I love about the Bujinkan is that it seems to attract the kind of eccentrics (myself included) who do things like wear kilts on a regular basis.

Certainly a thoroughly International affair. Thanks for posting these. I like around the world, kilt picture threads.

Now that I'm Stateside again and have more than just my iPhone to work with, I've consolidated the above pics and some others into a publicly viewable FB album:
