Kilted in Nashville-long and rambling post

I went to Nashville, TN for the Flogging Molly show Wednesday night. Had the Davidson Tank with a black T-shirt, beige-ish hose with green flashes and black boots. Going for the casual sweating-my-butt-off-in-a-crowded-bar look. I think I pulled it off well, but didn't get any pictures.

Started the night off at the Flying Saucer Draught Emporium. It's in an old train depot and the loading platform is now their enclosed front porch with large open windows and comfy couches and chairs. I was walking up and a gentleman at the first table said something to me in a fake Irish accent. We got to talking and he and his friends are all Scots, Irish and Welsh and really liked the kilt. They were asking about the tartan and if I wore it often or was it just for St. Pats day. Also turns out this guy used to live in Huntsville, AL where I work. He was an engineer with NASA and helped put the first men on the moon.
And one of the ladies with his group said I was one of the few men who really looked good in a kilt.
And I didn't even have to get her drunk first.

Then after a couple of good beers and some fine cigars, I headed a few blocks away to City Hall for the show. People were lined up outside trying to get tickets, and it was sold out. I had an extra $16 ticket and a guy gave me $20 for it. Not a bad way to start the night. Got a few general comments about the kilt looking good.
It was a very interesting crowd, lots of tattos and piercings, but I didn't see any other kilts until the night was almost over, and then just saw two more.

When I walked in I was cutting across the room to the bar and a woman ran up and grabbed me, "I've got to get your picture! I love the kilt!"
Had another girl grab me and ask what tartan it was. She said her late dad used to wear a kilt, and they were Gordon's. I told her about Xmarks, but don't know if she'll stop by. Then she pulled me over to her friend to show the kilt off.
Later I was watching the show and felt someone tugging at my pleats. It was the friend and she said she just wanted to feel it. She was also the only one to ask the question. She asked if I wore what was traditional with the kilt. I replied, "Yes I wear shoes and socks." She got a kick out of that.

Had quite a few guys stop me and tell me they really liked it, so I asked why they didn't wear one as well.
I passed one guy who had on a t-shirt with the family prayer from "The Boondock Saints" printed on it. I said I loved the shirt and he pointed at my plain black shirt and said "Love your shirt too." I said "Did you say Love the shirt or Love the skirt?" He looked down and yelled, "Dude are you wearing a kilt? That is F'ing awesome man. I love kilts!" Then he went on for a few more mintues, telling his friends to check it out.

All in all it was a very fun evening. Now on to St. Pattys Day!!

I have been to that one too. It is off the main drag by 1 block. In a way I like that.

It is a great location, and I love those old buildings. Glad to see them being reused instead of just torn down. There's another Irish Pub back up the main street a few blocks in a row of restaurants and bars. I heard it's pretty good too.

That's what I was telling them. If they don't have a problem walking around looking like a billboard for their local tatoo/piercing establishment, they shouldn't have a problem wearing a kilt in public, know what I'm saying?
