Kilted on Queen Mary 2 with a cigar!

Hello everyone.

I am flying from Heathrow - Vegas - New York sailing New York Southampton on QM2 soon and would like to take my kilt for the formal nights. Has anyone ever been Kilted on Cunard?

Also I like to smoke cigars and would like to be kilted in Churchills Cigar lounge. However, although I pride myself on my kilt etiquette my cigar lounge etiqutte knowledge is limited. So for the gentlemen amongst you I would lie to ask..
1. I will buy from their lounge and bar but is it acceptable to bring your own cigars.
2. Should cigars be pre cut when smoking in others company.
3. What when out and about should I carry cigars in ? Should they be in a leather carry case etc?

Hi Gareth,

I am not a smoker, but my step-father smoked cigars.

From memory -

1 - Yes, you might have a preferred brand that is not available anywhere else.

2 - No, my step-father carried a cigar cutter on his watch-chain. Different smokers prefer different cuts.

3 - He used to carry his in a leather case or the individual tubes.

Have a good trip - don't forget photos.

What Chas said re: cigars. Re: Kilt -- I have never sailed Cunard but have taken Royal Caribbean and worn a kilt for formal occasions and always welcomed; many positive comments, never a negative one! ' Can't imagine Cunard not celebrating a kilted gentleman. Enjoy your cruise!

I have sailed RC before but this was sadly pre Kilt so looking forward to giving the pleats an airing onboard QM. I will post back here when I return.

I would do both. Looks like they have a fine selection. It would be a perfect time to try something new.

Nah. Cut it right before you smoke it. (I prefer a "V" cutter) Oh, and don't forget to "toast the foot" before lighting it with a quality torch lighter. (Matches can leave a nasty aftertaste)

A nice leather case or quality "travel humidor" would be nice.

Being kilted on formal night is a topic of some discussion over at a certain cruise forum I used to go to. There the general opinion was one of kilt ignorance. However from a few of the replies I think it would be most welcome. I know of at least two members of XMTS that have been kilted on cruise ships.
