    Kilted Regiments/Battalions???

I am looking back at the various Highland regiments (due to Tunes of Glory) and am wondering about the chronology and inter-relation between the various regiments/battalions.

Could someone explain it to me simply?

Is there a good website showing a chart, etc, that might be useful in discombobliating (sp?) the info in my head?
(showing establishments, splits, mergers, and disestablishments, as well as the tartans used by each)

    Thanks for any clarifications.

    regiments...

The Scottish Military Historical Society's articles on the lineages of the Scottish Regiments are a good place to start, INMHO:

Also check out Dr. Diana Henderson's The Scottish Regiments. The Second edition was published in 1997 (Harper Collins), so it is 10 years old now, but it is still a very nice & affordable introduction to the Scottish Regiments.

    Regards,

The Irish gave the Scots the bagpipes as a joke, the Scots still haven't got the joke.
