Kilted in Russia, a good idea ?

    Hi all !!!

Apart to be a kilt lover I'm also an amateur astronomer who will go in Russia this summer to observe the next total solar eclipse in Novosibirsk on Aug 1st.

Naturally I plan to bring one or 2 kilts in my luggages and I plan to dress kilted for most of the time. I think it would be a nice opportunity to see me with my
kilt on the Red Square or in a subway in Moscow.

To your opinion it is or not a good idea ? Will the Russians will appreciate ?

The Russians love the traditional tartan kilt.My advice is don't wear the kilt out in the countryside at this time of year, the Russian midgies are almost as bad as The Scottish ones.

I'd recommend PMing one of our members, DreamDancer, who lives in St. Petersburg. That way you could get an opinion from a Russian kilt wearer.

I think trojanrabbit is also of the cyrillic brotherhood.
Cowards die many times before their deaths; the valiant never taste of death but once. Of all the wonders I yet have heard, it seems to me most strange that men should fear; seeing that death, a necessary end, will come when it will come. --William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar

The Russians have always been big fans of Robert Burns, so they should have no problem with a Scottish kilt.

A good friend of mine has portrayed Burns in Moscow for the past several years:

He has always received a warm reception in Russia. I know he wears his kilt and full formal rig for part of the evening at the St. Andrew's Society of Russia's Burns Supper.

    Yours aye,

    Todd

I think yes, definitely wear the kilts and wear it proudly.

By the way, I was lucky enough to witness the total solar eclipse in Europe in August 1999. It was spectacular.....extraordinaire!!
