    Kilted Surveyor on the Job

When my friends were leaving Arches National Park today they encounterd this surveyor clad in his Buchanen tartan kilt. He was genial and happy to let them take a pic.

Too bad they didn't know to tell him about X Marks

    Gotta be comfy.

I just wonder why he would have chosen the comfort and airy freedom of a kilt and then coupled it with hot leather combat boots and tube socks (?) pulled up to his knees!

Most surveying jobs require boots. And the the surveyers I know wear whatever is the most comfortable on the feet for them. The tube socks? my guess is muscle support as he moves and it keeps the sweat from rolling down into the sock. Still, looks VERY warm. Cool kilt though. In both ways.

His socks look like they might be compression hose, and they're two different colors. I've worked with surveyors before and yes, you do need to wear heavy boots when doing that kind of work.
I think he's the most "visible" surveyor I've ever seen.

Was out and about in the Arches NP and for sure need boots and leg protection from the scrub brush....maybe the gnats too. Maybe he sprayed the socks with insect repellant to keep the gnats from going "up kilt."

And maybe sun protection to go with long sleeves and wide brim hat.

I'm jealous! He looks like he is living the dream...kilted (of course).

That's awesome. I've never seen a surveyor on any of my jobs in a kilt. Probably never will.

Boots can be quite comfy, especially if they are well broken in. I wear mine almost all the time.
