Kilted Vanity Licence Plates

As I said, I've been bitten by the bug and now have the addiction. I just had a vanity license plate approved........"SPORRAN". Do any of my kilted brothers out there have a vanity plate that celebrates their love of kilts. If so, how about sharing? BTW, prior to this I had a plate request denied because it was considered offensive. It was "SMUGPOT", which is the shortened version of "SMUDGEPOT" and it was my late wife's nickname given to her by her father when she was an infant becuase she was born with a head full of black hair. He was a farmer and her dark hair reminded him of a "Smudgepot" which was used in orchards to prevent the trees from freezing. Talk about "political correctness"!

Kelly just got "USAKILT" on her Miata and found a tartan liscense plate cover (a bumble bee tartan that's close to Thomson Camel). Looks very cute on the black MX5.

Here in the United KIngdom, we do not have such registration plates. Ours are made up of a combination of numerals and letters and they contain an easily understood code which indicates the year that car was first registered. The registration plate usually remains with the car when you sell it on. We can purchase 'personalised' plates but to do so, and to use them, incurs additional charges. For example, I could probably buy 'HAM 123' through an agent, for about £300, and it would be mine to keep, but I would have to pay the Department of Vehicle Licensing an additional fee for the privilege.

Recently, I saw 'HAM 15H' advertised for sale by an agency and became quite excited about the prospect of having that on my car. Then I saw the price! They were asking £19,000 for it!! No, as it happens, I am quite content to keep my current 'YC06 DVW' plate!

One of the Geoffrey (Tailor) vehicles carries the plate: 'K1 LTS', which looks good with the tartan livery, but I dread to think what they had to pay for it!

Wow, that IS a heavy price to pay for a personalized plate! I never realized how that worked in the UK. To think I complained that mine cost me a mere $215.
