Kilted & watching the NBA Finals at a local pub

I do not have a TV as a matter of personal preference. Being a tranplanted Baystater (Massachusetts resident), last evening I developed a hankering to watch the Celtics vs Lakers game. It having been a humid, 94 degree day here in Concord, NH, I put on a cotton Black Stewart tartan kilt that I made myself specifically for such steamy weather, pulled on a pair of sandals and, with the bride in hand, walked to The Draft, our neighborhood sports pub. Before I could even order a beer, the waitress was eyeing my kilt. Turns out she was a MacLeod. A few minutes later, a young man comes over to our table and asked if there had been a Scottish Games that day that he had missed. I said no and that I was wearing a kilt because I felt like doing so! Turns out he owns a kilt himself, though he was not wearing it then. We struck up a conversation and discovered that we had a number of kilted friends in common - including his father! We talked up the idea of having local kilted nights out. A fellow sitting nearby overhead our conversation and asked me if I happened to know his neighbor who is also a kiltie. Turns out, indeed, I did know the gentleman. The evening became one of good comradery simply because I wore a kilt to a local pub! And oh, by the way, the basketball game was terrific - unless, of course, you are a Lakers fan. But with a name like "The Celtics", how can you go wrong?

    Cool story!

And yes, it's been great watching the Celtics kick the Lakers' bahookies!

Just wish Boston would pronounce the name of their basketball team correctly - Keltics, not Seltics...

I've been corrected for saying Celtic (kel-tic). The Welsh and some Irish pronounce Celtic as Seltic... but this isn't Wales or some remote Irish village is it? Kel-Tic!

Maybe, I'll wear my kilt to the baseball game on June 28th when the Astros kick the Red Sox butt in Minute Maid Park.

cool, seems you just made some more kiltie friends.

I think that wearing a kilt to a Bosox game would be a most excellent idea though you might find yourself disappointed regarding the butt kicking!
