Kilted at work...but not me!

So, as some of you may have known, I had to work last night...New Yeras Eve.

I work in the banquets department of a Sheraton hotel. Last night we hosted a Gala New Years Eve dinner for regular patrons of the North Carolina Symphony.

In the morning, several people came to decorate the room, and the first thing I noticed were Welsh flags on every table. So, I asked one of the nice ladies what the significance was, and she said that the director of the symphony was from Wales, and it was to honor him. Apparently the entire concert had a celtic theme this year, including a bagpiper and a harpist.

Anywho, It was mentioned in passing that I have a kilt, and she told me one of their regular patrons wore a kilt to their events.

Well, sure enough, later that evening a gentleman shows up wearing a nice Tank and PC. I spoke to him for about 5 minutes. I forget what tartan it was, but it was very nice. He grew up in Scotland, and wears his kilt on special occassions. I mentioned XMarks to him, so maybe he'll stop in and say hi.

By the way, I watched him walk into the ballroom, and I was amazed at how nice his pleats looked compared to my casual. I never knew there was such a difference...it's the first opportunity I've ever had to reall see someone close up walking in a kilt. Amazing swoosh factor, too.

Now I really want a tank!

That is why I purchased 7 traditional kilts and stopped wearing my UKs.

Ah Brian, you are Sooooooo hooked now. :grin:

And, that's why I own four traditionals and have one on the way...but still wear my UKs, PKs, AKs, FKs, USAKs, et.al.

I say Kathy Lare since she can find whatever tartan you want and sew it up for you...only limit is what the mills make.

And that is why my first (and at this time only) kilt is a tank. The fit, the feel, the comfort, the pleats... Got it in Spember of 04, too late for the games in Estes Park. Just had to wear it so I wore it to work for Halloween. One of the other guys had a casual kilt. BIG difference. You will enjoy your tank once you get it.

It's true. I got my tank first and a casual later. The casual is fine for some things, but it's not the same animal as my tank.

I currently have four Tanks. When I got my first one it changed everything, I was hooked and there was no looking back. There's simply nothing to compare them to.

When I put on my kilt (traditional heavy) for the 1st time...my wife looked at it, after a minute or 2 she told me to stop moving my butt. I was not moving...well not deliberately...the pleats start to dance with the slightest movement it seems.

It's my only kilt, so I don't have a clue about other kilts, but I already got a truckload of nice remarks about the "dancing pleats".

I love the way the pleats on my tanks always look good, even after sitting, and they flow and move so elegantly. It makes even my hobble look dignified.

The swoosh is such a nice feature of kilt, that is why I am addicted.

My wife noticed a similar effect with my SWK. I had to inform her that a "swish factor" was a desirable thing.
