    Kilts and beards

I'm not sure if this is just a local occurrence (as in Southern Indiana) or is it widespread but I've noticed that since I've trimmed my beard to a short all around stub, the looks I get and/or comments have diminished.

I shall remind the rabble that I was growing a very healthy set of mutton chops and they were getting REALLY long and with a lot of body, so I guess you can say the look was greatly improved by the fact of wearing a kilt.

You know, it sorta had the 'old world' feel to my appeal, here comes the guy with the 'old looking' beard and the kilt, and that brought comments and looks.

Now that im just a guy in a kilt, with a 'normal' short beard...things have changed.

I think I'll grow my chops again and try adding a pipe for effect (my mother used to smoke a pipe...she's the Young half of my heritage remember?) and take it from there.

Any other impressions regarding beards, lack thereof and reactions?

Don't know... I grew a full but short beard earlier this year. It just didn't seem right for me, so I went back to the stubble look that I can clean shave when needed.

Anyway, while removing the full beard, I left mutton chops for a little while. It was kind of fun. Also thought of growing a handlebar mustache, and I still might... To go with the kilt and flat cap outfits of course

I remember the picture of those chops you had... maybe the looks were for the chops and not the kilt? Maybe the combination? Personally, when kilted with stubble, longer, or full shaved, comments seem the same. But then I've never had those full on chops.....

Cannot really say as I had a beard before Kilts, but it is a great observation.

Beard and Kilt came about the same time- hmmm! (I wonder if there's a connection? Never thought to ask myself.) But I keep it short, the longer it gets the worse it looks. But I have always received compliments on my attire when kilted.

I've been bearded for over thirty years now and since I'm unlikely to shave it off I can't comment on the comparison. However, I get a fair few comments about the kilt even so.

Got you beat by 10, but I get a lot of positive comments, but only when kilted. . . . "distinguished Scottish Gentleman" and the like. . . .. Then they usually want to have their picture taken with me.

    This is my wife's reaction

    Beards don't affect my kilted-ness.

Had a bushy 'tash for 20 years but cleaned it off when HM Queen and I terminated our working relationship. Grew a full beard about 3 years ago while on mee hols (couldn't be bothered shaving) but it was like having a tri-coloured (mainly ginger) pan scouring pad stuck to my face. Kept it for a couple of months to give it chance then removed it pronto.

Don't do face hair now ... and luvly wife prefers it that way too; an' if she's happy, I'm happy!!

Give it time, Edinburgh wasn't built in a day either.
