    Kilts in the Civil War

Some time back the subject of kilts worn by US troops in the Civil War came up. The only unit to do so (for a very short time) was the 79th New York. Here's the story of the Regiment. http://www.americancivilwar.org.uk/n...egiment_16.htm

Great post. I've read accounts of that regiment but none of them mentioned the kilts.
Armageddon was yesterday. Today we have real problem.

Well, that should be 'history' enough to convince even the staunchest skeptics regarding the kilt and the Union Army. Though I'm delighted to see such evidence I must also say that I'm sad as to how it all turned out ... hum, if only they'd had Utilikilts then maybe those good men would not have been shamed out of their kilts!!

I do love my kilts, but having served in the U.S. Army Infantry I must say I can't really imagine wearing one under field conditions. Next to my kilts my Army BDU's were the most comfortable and practical clothes I've ever had ... sorta like wearing your pajamas to work every day. Thankfully my time is already served, my age advanced enough as to not be called back so I am free to simply ...

    Kilt On.
