    Kilts Cross Cultural Boundaries

So, I am out in the LA area for work this week. I heard about a local pub called Maggies, a Brittish pub, that on Tuesdays has a special - after 9pm, all draft beer and well drinks only $2, so I had to check it out. I went wearing my Stillwater Irish National. I walk into the pub, and of course am the only kilted person there. No real surprise. The bartenders, all of whom are Hispanic, were a bit surprised but thought I was the coolest thing.

As the evening went on, turns out 95%+ of the patrons are also Hispanic. A lot of looks and questions, but again, everyone was very positive. Toward the end of the evening, a couple of African-American guys came up and said, "So, what's up with this kilt thing?" My response - "It's a comfort thing - comfort and freedom!" They laughed outloud and said that they loved it!

So, the kilt proves itself yet again - it's power crosses cultural boundries!

    Just thought I would share.

Very cool thats a great story.

    Aye, an excelent story.

I ride the train downtown, for class, and have for a number of years. You run across a very diverse group of people, when taking the subway. I've had little cross-cultural things like that happen with people from everywhere you could imagine, and I can't remember a single one that was unpleasant. Wearing the kilt seems to have the effect of saying: "Even though I'm a stranger, it's ok to come right over and strike up a conversation". I think that's a very positive thing, especially with how the world in general is today.

When you wear the kilt, as long as you wear it in good spirits and with no reservations, the whole world is your friend.

You'll get far more Brits over at Maggies when there's a footie game on. Just for future reference. Oh and not that I'm biased but wear a Liverpool scarf with the kilt, that'll go down well
