    Kilts and Hawaiian Shirts

My last addiction regarding clothing was Hawaiian shirts, I have several dozen. Some of these are very nice ones acquired in the islands, and some else where. One of my favorites is a Tommy Bahama in an off orange.

Now Tartan and a silk Hawaiian shirt may not seem to go together, but what a bout a SWK in Saffron? Or maybe a Utility kilt?

Any one else share this addiction? Any one have any pictures showing such a ensemble? I have a lotus blossom silk shirt that would go well with Jamie's Rosie, but alas he is not as girthed as I. ;oP

It is my opinion and has been my opinion for many years that aloha shirts go with anything.

Hey, I had the same addiction. Must have had over 40 aloha shirts when I came to kilts.

Gave most to my brother and nephews, kept a few. Found the go best with solid color kilts as you mentioned. I think they look best worn open with a t-shirt underneath.

Been contemplating someone taking an aloha shirt and tailoring it to the same cut as a Scottish jacket...

Think there may be some pics on the link above. If not, will round a few up.

I must leap in here (those who know me will expect me to) and beg you NOT to wear Hawaiian shirts with tartan kilts. For the safety of the eyesight of your friends and family you really should not do this. Wear them with plain coloured traditional or contemporary kilts but please, not with tartan.

The tartans we wear are beautiful works of art (as, I am sure, are Hawaiian designs); they should be seen to their best advantage, standing alone and without something else alongside elbowing in for equal attention. Nothing should be allowed to compete with the beauty of our individual tartans, not even a mix of different tartans being worn on one body - which is almost, but not quite, as bad as putting an Hawaiian shirt with a gorgeous tartan kilt!

I have said all this many times before. I have said it again now and, no doubt, I will be obliged to repeat it in the future - if I am spared.

Hear my plea - and please do not do it!

    Take care,
    Ham.
