Kilts and Motorcycles.

I hope this issue hasn't been brought up before, as I would hate to rehash old questions. Being new to kilted life, I do have some concerns on how one would go about wearing a kilt while riding. Would you put the leather chaps on under or over your kilt? Since they are chaps, I would assume that they are still Unbifurcated... :-)

Dunno about you, but I'd be worried about the kilt getting caught in moving parts or singed on the exhaust. I think I'll change when I get there. This is a garb from one era and a technology from another. They just may not work together very well.

It has been brought up numerous times in the past few years... Motorcycles and kilts can be a touchy issue -- there are some strong opinions on whether or not it should be done at all... Safety is a concern.

P.S. I missed the latter part of your question on the first go-round. Yes. Chaps ARE bifurcated... But logistically, I just can't wrap my head around chaps and a kilt working AT ALL together. I've only ever worn one or the other... I would think wearing chaps would not only defeat the point of wearing a kilt in the first place, but even if you could do it, it seems like it would be such a pain in the butt to position everything that it really wouldn't be worth the bother. I've only ever worn rain pants over my kilt a few times when I got caught in a downpour. It wasn't very comfortable, even though it was functional.

+1 on the open rear wheel. Plus, I always figure folk that ride with exposed knees and ankles just haven't been hit by as many cars as I have. Road rash is NOOOOOOOT fun. And tricky to get bony joints out from under the bike before they aren't joints any more.

From personal experience, over 30 mph and exposed flesh gets cold.

I think they look silly on so many levels.
