    Question Kiltstore.net

I'm new here, so hope I'm posting this in the right part of the forum. I was wondering if anyone has ever dealt with this website before and if they would recommend it?

    Thanks,

I've never bought from them, but they have a lot of things I want and they are one of the sponsors/advertisers on this website (see top of page). They even give XMarks members discounts.

I've also heard good things about them from other people. Maybe one of these days I'll actually buy something.

Thank you for such a great welcome! I'm very ,very excited to be here and have been reading the forums as fast I can. :-D

I'm actually looking for the fabric for a Great Kilt for someone I know, so I guess I'm just looking for yards and yards of material? I just started researching today so I'm extremely new, and all I know is that for their own reason's they would like to have the "older" instead of the modern...sorry if I didn't say that right. No insult intended.

If you want fabric for a great kilt without going into bankruptcy you can check out fabric stores for wool blend "plaid" fabric. I check out the local Hancock Fabrics periodically for inexpensive fabric, usually about $5 a yard sometimes less.

I'll second Bubba because I've lucked out at Hancock fabrics a few times...found stuff in the "half-off" bin as a matter of fact.

Someone posted a thread recently about a fabric source that was connected to a historic recreations supply company and they stocked three or four plaids...www.periodfabric.com.

    First-Welcome!

Second- older or modern kilt, or older or modern tartan? If it's the latter, check out Matt Newsome's site at albanach.org for articles on how to wear the great kilt breacan mhor [sp?]), what tartans are some of the oldest documented, etc. He pops up from time to time here on XMarks; I'm sure you'll get to hear from him soon.

    Welcome

No insult for the older. I myself prefer the older and have and making the older style Phillabeg with extra tartan attached for a sash.
You can find lots of info at:

    http://www.kilts-n-stuff.com/Kilts/ancient_kilts.html

I got 2 diferent materials from

    http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZgoban062302QQhtZ-1

They are a wool blend but you can get 100% wool from Carlos at goban.
The material I got is great tartan for reinactment or colonial.

    again welcome to the XMark

For material for a Great Kilt, check out http://www.wooltartans.com/index.htm (Canadian site) or http://www.thescottishweaver.com/ (American site).

Both carry a lot of common tartans in Australian merino wool. Remember to check out the remnants pages.
