    Lending out kilt

Some one asked me to lend him a kilt for the Burns Supper. He already has a few kilts, but he wants to wear a black one that night to preform a musical number. I said no to him.

I don't normally lend my clothes out because I don't know whether I will get it back in one piece. Besides, I don't think he will pay for the dry cleaner afterward.

Yeah, I'm funny about clothes. I can't shop at thrift stores, and I don't lend my clothes except to people I'm very close with. My uncle? Sure. My brother... maybe.

not lending out clothes--always a good policy! I definitely don't blame you.

I don't blame you either. I once loaned a kilt to a friend for him to wear as a one-off at a special event, and I had to ask him many many times to return the kilt before I eventually got it back almost a year later.

When I'm competing in Heavy Athletics, I always take an extra kilt. More often then not someone shows up without their kilt or has some other sort of kilt-emergency. We're required to wear a kilt in competition. I'm happy to help. It's not like I'm lending my hand-made tank--they are usually bangers like SK's or SWK economy's just for games. I'd hate for a fellow competitor to not be able to participate because of some kilt-related issue.

Just my 2 cents--your mileage may vary

    Understandable - There's two things I won't lend : kilts and books

Ok well probably a few more like musical instruments (learned the hard way even when I knew better), but I digress.

    No kilt-lending!

    I understand your concerns.
I would loan my kilts to a couple of people whom I really, really trust, however, they do not have the same waist-size as me so it is unlikely that they will ever ask!

I've offered to loan a kilt to my uncle a couple of times for events, but he ended up hiring before I mentioned it.

I'm with John, I don't lend kilts or books.

Ever notice that folks who are most keen on borrowing are most reluctant to return things after?

Yeah, I don't loan kilts and neither does my father. It's an expensive piece of clothing and is not immediately replaceable should something happen... (Despite the price tag, it was about a 6 month wait for my kilt). I might consider loaning my knock-around saxony kilt that I rarely wear anymore because the apron is far too narrow... So perhaps I would consider it with "less nice" kilts... but typically 'no'.
